Learning and Teaching in Prep

LOOKING BACK... TERM 1 IN PREP!

Our 2024 Prep students have made a WONDERFUL start to school life.

Term 1 was full of lots of learning, play and fun!

From the first day of school, we have learnt to follow class processes and routines, including unpacking our bags independently and how to be good listeners on the mat.  Our Preps are fantastic at moving around the school safely by walking along in one line.

We have had lots of discussions about how we can contribute positively to COHR, by following our School Expectations and making Good Choices as opposed to Poor Choices.   We are trying to live this everyday, not just in our classroom, but everywhere in our school like the playground and even the Veggie Garden.  We were happy to help John with the big zucchinis in the Veggie Garden!

We have been very busy, focussing on getting to know each other and learning the names of our classmates.  We have already decorated our classroom with some art and craft, including our names made from colourful confetti!

Numbers 1-10 have been a big focus and we’re still working on how to write the numerals correctly and recognise small collections instantly, i.e. subitising.

Our Term 1 ABC Bootcamp was a fantastic way to learn letters and sounds.  Making Jelly for the letter 'J' was a highlight for the class!

We have read various Bible stories to learn more about Jesus.  In the Scripture story - The Lost Sheep, we feel God’s love for each one of us.  Jesus is the Shepherd and we are His sheep, trying hard to follow in His way.  We've also learnt about Lent and Holy Week, which helps us to reflect on our good choices.  We especially liked the tradition of Shrove Tuesday and eating pancakes!

We’ve come back to Term 2, refreshed and ready to embark on more learning.

Today marks our 45th day of school, and we have already achieved so much!

We’re looking forward to what 2024 will bring us, and we’re keen and excited to learn and grow this year!!!
