HOME INQUIRY

READING: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. As students complete a book, they are to record the author, title and date of finishing in their Readers’ Workshop book. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.

Sports Day: Thank you to everyone who came on Sports Day and made it a really special day. A big thanks to those parents who volunteered in some capacity- your contribution was appreciated and made for a great day.

Unit Of Inquiry: Students have begun their new, ‘Sharing the Planet’ unit with the central idea, ‘External forces influence life.’ This unit is about different biomes, their features, resources and how they are impacted by change. Students have begun researching a biome and will write a structured information report about it.

Literacy: Students are looking at effective note taking while reading non-fiction texts and applying their knowledge to form well-structured paragraphs. This has been beneficial to their research on biomes.

Mathematics: Students have been looking into the characteristics of number and have learned to identify prime and composite numbers, as well as factors of a number.

Touch Typing: As we have started touch typing, it has become evident that a number of students don’t have a working keyboard. The iPad keyboard will be important in the development of keyboard skills which will be part of their class learning. Headphones will also be regularly used in class for a variety of purposes. Both items will be necessary for Year 5s to complete NAPLAN. Again, thank you for helping with this.

Teacher/Parent Interviews: We are looking forward to meeting with the parents of our students in Week 10, the week after Easter. Bookings can be made for Tuesday or Wednesday after school through TASS - click on the following link:

Parent Lounge (tass.cloud)

To make the booking, log into the Parent Portal, click on Parent Teacher Interviews and then press ‘book’.

If these times are not convenient for you or your family, please make contact to arrange an alternative time. Teacher/parent interviews are an integral part of our reporting to parents and allow parents the opportunity to understand their child’s learning, ask questions that may concern them and set goals for the coming term.

Yours sincerely,
