Dear families,
We hope you had a wonderful break with your child/ren and were able to enjoy the outdoors and the gorgeous weather we had. I was lucky enough to be able to spend some time on the Eyre Penisula and enjoy some of the amazing places SA has to offer.
It's going to be another busy term and are looking forward to all of the exciting events we have planned.
School Security
We have beautiful grounds for our students to enjoy learning, playing and connecting with each other and it is important that we keep our school grounds safe and clean for our students.
If you see any visitors on our school grounds who are not respecting our spaces, please feel free to report them to Police Security 81169230 or report direct to SAPOL on 131444.
Term Overviews
Curriculum Term Overviews for your child's class will be available on Class Dojo this week so you are able to read over the learning that is occuring at Modbury School this term. If you have any questions regarding your child's learning, please don't hestitate to make contact with your child's teacher to discuss.
Mother's Day Stall
Our Mother's Day Stall is next week. Please remember this is a cashless event- students will be purchasing items using pre-paid Modbury vouchers. More information on the Mother's Day Stall and how to purchase vouchers can be found on the Mother's Day Stall page of the newsletter.
Uniform Update
Stock of our new uniforms has arrived and will be distributed to those who have placed an order via Qkr!.
As it is getting chilly in the mornings we would like to remind you that we now have Modbury School beanies available for order via Qkr!. These beanies may be worn in the place of school hats during Terms 2 and 3.
Don't forget our soft shell jackets are available for pre-order, ready for the winter chill. Samples are available in the Front Office for you to look at, please order via Prime Sports link on Class Dojo.
Storage Pod Onsite
You may have noticed that a storage pod has been delivered to the site, and is now positioned outside the OSU building. This pod will be used to store old/excess furniture which we replaced when the classrooms had their 'freshen up' before Term 1. By moving this furniture into the pod, we have been able to clear the outdoor STEM learning space, which we are excited to transform into another space for our students to use during lessons, and break times. This will occur during the coming weeks.
The storage pod and surrounding area is out of bounds to our students. Please support us in reminding them to keep clear of this space.
National Walk Safely to School Day - May 10th
National Walk Safely to School Day is an annual community event where all Primary School children are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school.
Now in its 25th year, National Walk Safely to School Day is supported by the Federal Government, and all State, Territory, and Local Governments. The event promotes Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment.
To celebrate this event we invite you to join us in Walking Safely to School. Staff members will be meeting at Civic Park at 8:20 on Friday May 10th. We will then walk together as a group to school in time for the first bell. Please note that parents/caregivers must accompany their child. As this is not a formal excursion, there is no duty of care/supervision provided by staff.
National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers. Volunteers contribute to the education sector in many ways, from reading in class to helping on excursions. Our volunteers contribute thousands of hours to our schools, preschools and children’s centres.
In 2024, National Volunteer Week will be held from Monday 20 to Sunday 26 May. This special event provides an opportunity to highlight the important role of volunteers in our schools, preschools and children’s centres, and invites people not currently volunteering to give it a go.
If you have always loved the idea of volunteering in our school - now is the perfect time to register with us! We are hosting volunteer training and induction sessions each term, and would love to have you join us in supporting our children. Our next session will be held on May 8th- Week 2 Wednesday.
Casual Day Fundraising
Thankyou for your participation in our casual day on the last day of Term 1.Our families raised $191.50 which will go towards our Garden.
Book Week 2024
The 2024 Children's Book Week theme; Reading is Magic, celebrates the amazing power of stories to transport minds. children are encouraged to be curious about the wonders in our world. The magic of reading also lies in its power of enticement; a good story provokes conversations. Talking about the stories with others connects the reader with other readers. Wrapped around all of this are the "tricks" and skills of our amazing writers and illustrators, as they use all their powers of language and illustration to engage the reader in this world they are building.
Book Club
Issue 3 of the Scholastic Book Club is now available.
