Stage 2 Excursion
Last week Stage 2 were lucky enough to go on an excursion to The Pioneer Village and Transport Museum in Inverell.
When we arrived at the Pioneer Village we were blown away by all the old things (excluding the teachers). Each and every building that we went into was historic in its own way.
We went back to 1887 and to school where we saw old desks, inkwells and black & white magazines! We could walk into old cottages and see how people lived in the past - how the houses were built, the furniture they had, how they did the washing and cleaning and of course the outside dunny! We think cooking would have been very hard and dangerous because they had to cook over big open fires with heavy pots and in long dresses and aprons too!
A visit to Paddy’s Pub was enjoyed by everyone. Making a phone call seems to have been very complicated in the old days from what we could see at the telephone exchange; there were leads going everywhere. The Blacksmith shop showed us the large fire pit and the tools that were used in days gone by.
There were many displays that included old photographs and cameras, clothing, the mining industry, the Inverell Times Newspaper, old farm machinery and war memorabilia.
It was really fun and we saw some awesome things.
