Sports Update

Diocesan Cross Country

Last Friday, 22 St Joseph’s Students travelled to Barraba to compete in the Armidale Diocesan Cross Country Event. Our students ran their best and left nothing in the tank as they made their way around either the 2km and 3km courses. We had some outstanding results with Charlotte Neville winning the 10 Years Girls age event, Ivy Watson coming 4th in the 8/9 Years Girls event and Sophia Nugent being pipped at the finish line to receive 4th place in the 11 Years Girls race. These three girls have qualified to represent the Diocese at the Polding Cross Country competition on Wednesday the 5th June.

We had 6 other students finish in the top 20; Matilda Schalk 10th, Harry Smith 16th, Charlie Schalk 13th, Bridget Grob 13th, Jimmy Chard 13th and Collie Cooper 17th. Once again it made me proud to be part of the St Joseph’s community. All of our students displayed excellent sportsmanship and our parents showed tremendous support for our children. Thank you to Michelle Lawler and Sue-Ellen Cooper who volunteered to be on a checkpoint on the course. We really value your generosity. Sarah Smith and Casey Chard were also put to work at the finish line recording results, so thank you also for your help!

Mrs Karen Fletcher does an outstanding job in providing uniforms to our students for these events. I’d be lost without her. Thank you Mrs Fletcher for doing this time consuming job for me. To help make her job easier, if any students have their cross country uniform at home, can you please bring it back in a bag with your child’s name on it. Thank you.

As the 5th June approaches, we wish Charlotte, Ivy and Sophia all the very best in Sydney. We look forward to watching you run on the live stream.

Sport

This term we will have an athletics expert, Jay Stone, coaching our students in a variety of athletics skills in preparation for our Athletics Carnival. His first session starts this week. We look forward to having Jay at our school providing quality teaching of these skills.
