What's on in Foundation

Grade 6 Buddies

Foundation students love every opportunity that they can to catch up with their Grade 6 buddies! The big buddies have been so wonderful helping the Foundation students in the playground and a strong connection has been built! Grade 6’s loved the opportunity to come down to Prepland and have a play with our Mini Street and spend time building and reading with their little friends!

Harmony Day

Foundation students had such a lovely day celebrating Harmony Day on Thursday 21st March. It was so lovely seeing all the different cultures within our grades. Students were so proud to tell us about their costumes, where their parents or grandparents were born and even some interesting cultural facts.

We had fabulous discussions about why Australia makes a great home for everyone to live. Some responses from our students were:

“There is nice weather with no tornadoes.”

“It is a safe place to live.”

“Our homes are comfortable.”

“People are kind.”

“The seas have lots of animals.”

“We are good sharers!”

Teddy Bear Picnic

Foundation students have been exploring all things ‘BEAR’ over the last couple of weeks. We loved exploring teddy bear stories and writing descriptive sentences about our teddy bears using adjectives. It was so much fun exploring the book ‘Going on a bear hunt’! We even created a  3D map of the story where we all followed along using puppets.  We even measured our teddy bears using lots of informal units such as counters, links and even playing cards!

On Wednesday we were ‘bear-y’ excited for our Teddy Bear’s Picnic. The weather was kind to us and we had lots of picnic rugs spread out on the grass! We loved sitting up on the oval with our families, enjoying a special afternoon snack and a story. We even went on a scavenger hunt to create our very own teddy bear with our special visitors. A BIG thank you to all the Mums, Dads and special visitors that came to school.
