Student Leadership Update

An update from Hamish, Damo, Lily and Aya.

Welcome to our School Captain's Report!

We have some news to share with you all!

On Tuesday we went to the Melbourne Convention Centre for a conference (Melbourne Primary Dream and Lead Conference). There were several speakers, Bonnie, Amanda, Will, and Trent to name a few. They all spoke about how they became leaders and how to improve by proving people wrong! For example, not needing to fit in to belong. It was very enjoyable and helpful!

Trent spoke to us at the Dream and Lead conference. Trent started his journey when he wanted to be in the AFL. When he was young he was given the nickname 'Little Trent' because there was another Trent that was bigger. The first time he tried to get in the AFL he didn't, but it did not stop him from trying even harder, which paid off when he was drafted to Sydney in 2009. Trent also played for St.Kilda.

Last Tuesday we went to the Geelong Arts Centre to participate in a local Leadership Conference. We discussed with different leaders from other schools and spoke to four adult leaders named Karina, Jarrod, Matilda, and Breanna. Karina is a climate enthusiast and for her workshop, we did trust testing activities. Next was Jarrod, he is an indigenous tattoo artist and for his workshop, we did a yarning circle and discussed leadership. Third was Breanna. Breanna is a manager for the Geelong Cats and for her workshop, we were in groups with different school leaders and discussed some things we wanted to improve at our school. Lastly was Matilda. She is a musician and for her workshop, we did performing arts activities. During both conferences, we discussed a new project to undertake at the school.

We have decided to start a new project where we will be getting some chickens for the school grounds!!! We will need a few parent helpers to do a working bee and help us build what we need. It would be so much fun to have our own chickens to take care of and to help our local environment even more! If you think you can help, please see Mr. Barclay! ;)

Thanks and have a super weekend!
