Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been a great two weeks at Toorak Primary School with our students displaying their many skills and resilience in various school events and out in the yard. Recently we’ve had our students in Year 3 and 5 undertake NAPLAN testing, and we are confident in their abilities to do the best they can in the numeracy and literacy assessments.  I was extremely proud to see all the Year 3 and 5 students concentrating and trying their best, in such formal testing conditions. Well-done to all our students!

It was great to see our Yr 1- 6 students actively participating in a ball skills program with over twenty SEDA students leading skill sessions. SEDA College is an Independent Senior Secondary School where students complete their Years 11 and 12 through an individual approach to learning that provides opportunities to develop real life skills for a successful future. The students develop, plan and instruct small groups of students and our school is fortunate to have these students attend and provide this basketball program to our school.

This Friday we also celebrate Harmony Day which celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity.  It is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. I look forward to seeing all the students either in traditional costumes or in the colour orange to celebrate this important day

Thank-you

Thank-you to the parents who have paid their voluntary contributions, which we appreciate and need, as it pays for all the materials the children have already received, at the start of

the year.

For those that haven't contributed yet, we would greatly appreciate it, if you could make a payment ASAP as the school has already paid for these items and reimbursement of these funds will allow us to purchase other equipment and items around the school.

Thank you also to those families who have made voluntary donations and donations to our tax-deductible funds. We thank you for your generosity, and the opportunities that it provides, to our school and ultimately your child/children.

THE FATHERING PROJECT

In 2022 we introduced The Fathering Project to TPS, and I am excited that the project is continuing this year. Our first event of the year is occurring next week, and we have a large number attending for Pizza and Paper Planes. I thank Ms. Sara Harris and the organising committee for their work in this area.

The Fathering Project aims to improve child development outcomes by inspiring and equipping fathers and father figures to effectively engage with their children.

Why directly target fathers and father figures?

  • We know that an effective father has a profound impact on the health and wellbeing of a child.
  • Children do better in school when their fathers are involved in their school, regardless of whether their fathers live with them or live apart.
  • Children whose fathers participate in school activities, meetings and events also enjoy school more, are less likely to have behaviour issues and are more likely to participate in extracurricular activities.

Did you know…
