In recent weeks, students embarked on an enchanting journey through the pages of Margaret Wild's "The Stone Lion." As they navigated the story's twists and turns, they uncovered new words, expanding their vocabulary and deepening their understanding of the text. Beyond surface-level discussions, they delved into the emotional depth of the Stone Lion, grappling with themes of courage and compassion. Through partner readings, they not only improved their fluency but also cultivated a sense of teamwork and support.
Writing
Fueled by the inspiration of "The Stone Lion," Grade 5/6 students unleashed their creativity through narrative writing. Armed with detailed plans and descriptive language, they crafted stories brimming with imagination and emotion. Daily writing exercises honed their ability to vividly depict scenes and evoke empathy in readers.
Numeracy
Grade 6 students recently completed their exploration of ‘Integers’ and ‘Prime/Composite Numbers’ in Mathematics. They navigated through the complexities of these concepts, honing their problem-solving skills and gaining confidence in their mathematical abilities. Through these Numeracy sessions, students tackled challenges with determination and resilience.
NAPLAN
Congratulations to Grade 5 students for completing their NAPLAN assessments! Their hard work and dedication reflect their commitment to Grayling’s values - particularly ‘Performance’ and being ‘Daring’. Students demonstrated resilience and perseverance during the assessments period, which is a testament to their dedication to growth and academic achievement. As they await the results, let’s continue to support and encourage them, celebrating their achievements and the skills they have developed throughout the NAPLAN journey.
Looking Ahead
Grade 5/6 students have already begun an exciting exploration of Civics and Citizenship. Through collaborative projects, they will continue to investigate topics such as democracy and civic responsibility, preparing them to become informed and engaged citizens.
