On Wednesday the sixth of March 2024, we had an African Drummer named Bubuka visit our school. He brought a kora and lots of different drums for him to use and lots of small Djembes (which are small drums) for us to use.
First, we started off with some beats that he played and some people to dance to, like Jack, Ember, Leo, Jamie, Rohan, Emily and Shloka but then after that he made us all dance in gender groups.
Next, he explained some beats for us to play, and the instruments he used. The beat he explained was Budda Budda Boom,Boom Boom Boom. He explained his Kora was made out of cowhide, special African pumpkin and special African wood as well as studs and fishing wire from bunnings warehouse. Bubuka then explained that he was from Senegal in West Africa where they speak African as well as French.
Then it was singalong time and we sang 'It's time for Africa'. Luckily we already knew the song from a popular Just Dance.
We all had an amazing and enjoyable lesson with Bubuka when we got to play the Djembes, sing and dance and just enlighten a little. Thanks for reading!
