ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ballads often have a set structure of four verses and sometimes a repeating chorus. They usually follow a rhyming pattern of either: ABAC or AABB or ACBC. Ballads will also include many language features. Read a poem of your choice, or the one below and ask your child to identify the rhyming pattern and any language features such as repetition, metaphors, personification and alliteration. Have them then write their own poem that includes some of the language features.
