'Scenes From a Movie' - Term 1 Challenge
The Shortt Story Showdown had it's third installment this term with another 'scenes from a movie' challenge, where our talented young writers showcased their creativity and storytelling skills to capture some movie scenes as if they were written for a novel.
The students were challenged with not only vividly describing the scene of the movie clips they were shown, but weaving into it the emotion, mood, and relevant backstory so that the readers experience is maximised. Each year level was allocated a different scene to portray. Before you read the winning entries below, it may help to have the context! The clips each year level had to recreate are below:

Michael Jordan uses 'Looney Tune magic' to stretch for a game winning basket against the 'Monstars' - avoiding becoming enslaved for life.

The students were writing from the 35 second mark of this clip to the 57 mark. Aladdin rubs the lamp for the first time.
Throughout the term, participants engage in a comprehensive journey, involving drafting, attending workshops, and refining their work based on a variety of feedback. Their dedication transforms initial ideas into compelling narratives, ultimately showcasing their growth and unwavering commitment to the art of writing. Judging this competition continues to be incredibly challenging, due to the remarkable quality of the submissions. The caliber of entries, and how hard each student works is so exceptional that any participant could rightfully claim the top spot. It's this very intensity of competition that elevates the event, demonstrating the remarkable dedication and skill of our participants.
Congratulations to our winners, India (F1, Year 6), Hadi (F13, Year 5), and Cordelia (F9, Year 4) who take home a $20 Dillons Bookshop voucher, and a $15 Kmart voucher. Please enjoy their winning entries below.
