Year 10 News

This term has been productive for Year 10, with active participation in a range of sporting, cultural, academic, creative, and social activities at SJCC and across the Diocese. These initiatives are designed to highlight students’ potential in a particular field, with the development of positive wellbeing and mental health at the forefront of such activities.
Our Year 10 Student Representative Council (SRC) and Aboriginal Leaders were chosen earlier in the term, with those elected supporting the cohort across various pursuits. SRC Leaders will have the opportunity across the year to be involved in a range of activities, particularly within our community, such as The Red Door Community Kitchen Inc at the Uniting Hall in Muswellbrook.
Year 10 SRC Leaders from 2023 participated in a pilot workshop earlier this term, ran by Catholic Mission. They were pivotal in discussing and leading the Socktober program here at SJCC and instrumental during conversations, about the future of Socktober, had with both David and Renata. They will continue to do so across the year, giving voice to ideas and programs which will be student-led and run in Catholic schools across the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese.
During Wellbeing Week in Week 5 this term, Year 10 SRC Leaders were an integral part of the Community Day, setting up and running their own successful drinks and ice block stall. Year 10 SRC Leaders sold all 240 cans and 72 ice blocks during a one-hour period and raised much needed funds for Caritas Australia, who work together with local communities and churches, bringing aid and relief to those devastated by natural disaster or conflict.
In Term 2, Year 10 will have their second Wellbeing Day together, with more information coming shortly. This day is designed to strengthen students' relationships with one another and will continue to build upon their capacity to work together. Students will participate in team bonding activities and will work collaboratively throughout the day. SRC and Aboriginal Leaders will also organise and run their own selected stall during our Term 2 Community Day. They will meet early next term to brainstorm and discuss their ideas.
Other key dates in Term 2 include;
Week 2 – 07/05/2024 (White Card Training and Year 10 Vaccination Catch Up - NSW Health)
Week 5 – 27/05/2024 to 31/05/2024 (Work Experience/Placement and Wellbeing Week)
Week 5 – 28/05/2024 (Year 10 Wellbeing Day)
Week 5 – 31/05/2024 (Community Day)
A reminder that Illness/Misadventure Forms should be completed at least three days prior to an assessment task being due if you will be absent on the date of submission. These forms are also required if students are absent the day before an assessment task is due. This is a compulsory NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirement for all Year 10, 11 and 12 students. For further information please contact the school via phone or email.
Have a safe and happy break and I look forward to seeing you all back again next term.
