FLC

Welcome to our Foundation Students and Physical Education classes.  They have been learning to move around playing areas safely and making sure our classmates are safe.

In PE the students have been running, skipping, galloping and moving their bodies in different directions.

All students have shown an understanding of the importance of listening to instructions and learning in big spaces, such as outdoors on the basketball court or inside the hall. They have identified how to throw a bean bag safely to themselves or a partner.  A major focus has been for students to learn to take turns with equipment and help each other when using equipment. All students have gained a good understanding of remaining within safe boundaries and have developed good habits when returning equipment at the end of the session.   Great Effort Foundation students

JLC

In PE this term our focus has been on learning techniques involved with Athletics.

JLC has been developing their running and starting techniques and applying this in sprints and in relays. They have identified batons and used these correctly when passing to teammates. Students have been leaping and hurdling over hurdles in a simple race format.  The students have learned to use a side stance technique when throwing a discus.  We used hoops and rubber discuses to and throw for distance.  The shot put technique has been practiced and we learned to “put” the ball out in front of our bodies, whilst aiming to place the “shot put” in the correct zone.

MLC & SLC

During PE sessions, all students in the MLC and SLC have been developing skills and refining techniques in Athletics.  On March 8th, many of the SLC and some MLC students were selected to represent the school at the SSV Springvale District Athletics Carnival – held at Murrumbeena Athletics Track.  We had students competing in events such as:

  • 800m, 200m 100m running races
  • Circular Relay 4 x 100m (4 competitors in a team)
  • Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put and Discus.

Throughout Term 1 our MLC and SLC students have been encouraged to increase their own fitness capacity. All students have been attempting to jog regularly around our school oval.

They have been recording their fitness journey by keeping a tally of their laps. These laps will count towards our House Points for the end of the Term. Keep trying to add up those laps up everyone.

For 10 , 11 and 12/13 year olds this activity could be used as inspiration to engage in regular training to build endurance fitness for the District Cross Country event in May.  Students will need to demonstrate they can jog for 4 or more laps of our oval without stopping to allow them to be possibly selected for this event.  We have even discussed a jogging club for early Term 2.     Look out for that !!!
