Student Voice : Springvale
We can’t believe we are already approaching the end of Term 1. Everybody has done an awesome job engaging in all the recent school activities while still demonstrating all of the school values. Every single student has tried their absolute best to achieve their goals and success criteria they have been focusing on. There have also been some wonderful events these past few weeks. We can’t mention them all, but some highlights we will share with you are Athletics, International Women's Day, NAPLAN and Harmony Day. We also will share with you an event that was special, but a little bit sad – Mrs Chintha’s Retirement.
NAPLAN
These last two weeks have been especially busy for some of our MLC and SLC students. The Grade 3 and 5 students have been working extremely hard to complete their NAPLAN tests. They have accomplished their Reading, Writing, Conventions of Languages and Numeracy test. Wow, what an achievement! We are proud of every single one of the students due to the fact, they have shown integrity, resilience and excellence during every single one of their tests. The results will help teachers and students identify their strengths and areas of improvement.
Athletics Day
On Friday 8th March, students from both the MLC and SLC participated in Athletics Day. It was held at Duncan Mackinnon reserve in Murrumbeena. The venue was huge, the day was perfect day and we all felt like champions in the grandstand. The day commenced with the 800-metre event. The track was huge but every student who competed in this event tried their best. The field events were held next, and we had winners in discus, shot put, triple jump, long jump. The sprints were very exciting with students running like the wind in both the 100 metre and 200 metre races. The highlight was Circular Relay with teams of four working collaboratively to get their baton across the finish line. The grandstand was full to the brim with students from all the other schools all yelling at the top of their lungs and cheering on their friends down on the track. Most of the students received ribbons; with some students coming first or second and making it to division! We all had fun and enjoyed hanging out with our friends for the day.
International Women’s Day
On the same day as Athletics, was International’s Woman Day. Kerri-Anne from 5/6F was able to attend the International Women’s Day breakfast at 7 am. Her aunty, Miss Jamar, and Mrs A also attended this special event was hosted by Killester College! They all had the honour of being able to go and celebrate incredible women in everyone's lives! The city hall was full of tables, a coffee stall, and a place where you could get breakfast. They also got the chance to sit on the same table as the mayor; how amazing is that! This event was truly inspiring for all the amazing women there since the speeches they said were about gender equality and how women should be able to do the same as men, on top of that there were loads of delicious food like croissants and fruit! There were talented women singing beautifully and someone playing the didgeridoo. It was very emotional and heartwarming for everyone; truly touching everyone's heart.
International Women’s Day is about being able to celebrate the incredible women in our lives and around the world. Something that needs to be focused on is about young women who are already showing exceptional leadership skills at such a young age! From our school hallways to our homes, we see young women taking charge, making a difference, and leading with compassion and determination. They inspire us with their courage, their empathy, and their ability to bring positive changes wherever they go. Let’s all take a moment to acknowledge these young leaders, to encourage them, and to empower them to continue making their mark on this world. To all the girls who lead, thank you for being such inspiring role models. Your leadership is shaping a brighter future for us all. Cheers to you, and cheers to all the women who continue to inspire us every day!
Farewell to our wonderful Mrs Chintha!
Sadly, one of our special cleaners has retired. We would all like to give her a farewell goodbye because she wasn’t just our cleaner, she was our ES staff member that started here in 1987! She worked as an ES member, a canteen worker and a cleaner here at Springvale Rise Primary School. She developed an extremely strong relationship here at this school as she's watched children, even her own, join and graduate from this school! It is extremely sad to see her go but some things aren't permanent. She was a very hardworking person and was there to put a smile on everyone's faces! Staff members had come together to give her a special goodbye. It was very emotional to see her go and I’m sure everyone loved seeing her around the school. We would all love to say thank you Mrs. Chintha for being a determined person that never gave up on us and we appreciate you for staying with us for more than 35+ years! It is sad to say goodbye, but we hope to see Mrs. Chintha visit us sometime! Thank you, Mrs Chintha!
Hot Off The Press…
Harmony Day was perfect. Everybody enjoyed celebrating our diversity in a fun and engaging way. The day began spectacularly with Uncle Josh from the Bunurong Land Council doing a Welcome to Country and Yidaki performance. The students looked fantastic in their traditional dress or the colour orange. Everyone dressed up to show their respect and support for cultural diversity. Students waved flags that represented their cultural identity and paraded around as they danced to music. We also got to see some different performances performed by students and parents! It was very fascinating to watch how people from different cultures danced. Everybody was laughing and smiling and having the time of their life. After the parade we had fun engaging in activities from different countries in our classrooms.
“It felt very nostalgic”- Anas 5/6E
At the end everybody had an awesome and fun day celebrating our different cultures. These are moments we will always be remember.
It has been wonderful to see all the students and teachers participate in a variety of events held recently. We hope you all have fun and safe holidays, but also remember to keep your curiosity doors open. Once you come back from the holidays you will be flabbergasted to see the exceptional events happening in Tm 2. There will be interschool sports, Cross country, Camp and much more that remains unannounced. So, keep up the great work because there are still much more exciting events to happen.
