School Council Office Bearers Elected

As is usual at this time of the year, our 2024 School Council held its first meeting last Wednesday and elected our new office bearers. I can now officially confirm that Ms. Louisa Willoughby has been re-elected as our School Council President and Ms. Asal Dimitracopoulos as School Council Vice President. Ms. Dyna Holl is once again confirmed in the role of Treasurer and Ms. Shilpa Mattepally will take up the role of Secretary.   We are so grateful to have such a supportive group of people on our School Council.  Springvale Rise Primary School is indeed very lucky!

Reminders for Parents and Guardians

At this time of the year we also remind our school community that parents and guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance are responsible for paying the cost of any medical treatment, including the cost of ambulance attendance / transport and any other transport costs, if required.  Please note that parents and guardians can purchase insurance policies from commercial insurers if they so desire.

All parents, guardians and staff are also reminded that the Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought into schools and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.  Therefore, we encourage families to consider insuring devices that they own i.e. laptops owned by students / parents but are used at school as part of our blended ICT model and to ensure their children do not bring expensive toys / phones to school.)

Harmony Day Celebrations

Our annual Harmony Day celebrations took place this week. I love celebrating what makes our Springvale Rise Primary School community so special – our cultural diversity. Our Harmony Day events across both campuses are always filled with colour, excitement, music, pride, and genuine joy.  And, this year’s event was no different!

We were lucky enough to experience a Yidaki performance by Uncle Josh West, he also shared a heartfelt Welcome to Country, engaging students through his personal stories and connection to Bunurong Land. Other special guests included Cr Lana Formoso (The Greater Dandenong Mayor), Cr Richard Lim and School Council Members. A few of our wonderful students (and families) presented cultural dances, representing South Sudan, India, Greece and the Cooke Islands.

A big thank-you to all our families and community members who came along over the two days.  Please know that we love having you come and join us in our celebrations.  I truly hope you walked away feeling a strong sense of belonging. I certainly felt very proud!

NAPLAN

Over the last two weeks, our Grade 3 and 5 students completed their online NAPLAN tests in Writing (online only for Grade 5), Reading, Numeracy and Conventions of Language. We are proud of all students for the efforts they applied towards the tests. The results for the NAPLAN tests will be shared with schools and families later this year.

Have a wonderful holiday break!
