A message from the Principal

For Every Child - Fully Fund Public Schools

This week has seen a 'Week of Action' in the ongoing campaign to secure fair funding for government schools across Australia.

As you are probably aware, the current funding model for schools means that 98% of government schools (Including SKiPPS) are underfunded. This means they do not receive 100% of the 'Schooling Resource Standard' (SRS) which is the minimum amount governments have agreed that we need in order to meet the needs of our students.

We want to thank you for putting your trust in the government school system by sending your children to St Kilda Park. We are truly proud of the hard work that our staff put in every day, and our community puts in through their constant involvement and fundraising to make up for this shortfall in funding.

Our results (on lots of different levels) show that we do a great job to match (and often exceed) the local private and catholic schools that are almost all fully funded to (and often beyond) the SRS due to the different funding model that they enjoy.

However, we know how much more we could do for your children if public schools were fully funded.

  • We could provide smaller class sizes.

  • We could employ staff to provide additional tutoring, intervention, extension and support for those children who need it most.

  • We could reduce workload for our overworked and tired staff, allowing them to do an even better job and stay in the profession long-term.

The Australian Education Union this week are seeking the support of all Australians to call for full funding for Government Schools.
