From the Principals

Information from Mrs Mann, Mrs Cook and Mrs Strachan

Welcome to our second last newsletter for Term 1! It is crazy to think that we have only 9 more school days left before the end of term. Where did that time go? We have a jam packed couple of weeks to round out the term before heading off on the Easter break, so please make sure to carefully read notifications coming out on Compass updating you on events and actions.

Colour Run

Our Colour Run is fast approaching, and the excitement is definitely building! With next Friday, March 22 planned for the big event, we are in the final stages of planning. This is our major fundraiser for the year, so we would love for every family to set up a fundraising profile for their child, and if possible, help us work toward our fundraising target of $20,000. The money raised will go toward renovating and replacing the Stadium floor. The money raised last year is being held for this purpose, but the replacement of the floor is a very expensive project! If you are able to donate, please set up a fundraising profile at www.myprofilepage.com.au

For your information, the Colour Run includes students being exposed to:

  • Coloured powder (The Colour Powder is 98% cornstarch and 2% colouring - It’s also gluten free, is non-toxic, environmentally friendly, biodegradable, skin safe and non-flammable.)
  • Foam (The ingredients in the foam are glycerine and dishwashing liquid. It can potentially be slightly slippery, but areas where the foam will be are heavily supervised to ensure student safety. The foam may make clothes damp.)
  • Water (There may be parts of the course that have teachers/adults with water jets. Students may be sprinkled with water, they won't be drenched. This not only intensifies the colour, but reduces the powder in the air.)

We recommend that you have an old towel or a spare pair of clothes for the trip home after the event. The colour will come out with regular washing, but you may not want it all over your car! (For reference, see a picture of my son Will when he was in Grade 6 about 8 years ago coming home after a colour run where we wrapped him in a garbage bag to save the leather seats in the car!!)

If your child is nervous about taking part, please speak with the class teacher as we would love to make some arrangements that mean everyone can participate in some way. If your child would like to participate in the obstacles, but not have colour directed toward them, please wear a t-shirt that is NOT WHITE. Helpers on the day will be instructed to avoid students wearing anything other than a white t-shirt.

Our Community Network group have been working hard to organise the day, and we would love for other parents/carers to be involved, too! If you are able to volunteer any time next Friday, please let us know by using the link here -

Some jobs we need help with include:

  • Set up and pack up of obstacles
  • manning stations to shower students (and teachers) with colour
  • manning 'water' stations to squirt water at students.
  • running the BBQ

NAPLAN

We have had a great start to our NAPLAN window, with students from Year 3 and 5 participating in several assessments already. NAPLAN is a great tool to help school make plans for future directions and to identify areas of need, but it is important to remember that it is one assessment on one day...it is not a full picture of everything a student is capable of, and certainly does not measure every area in which they have strengths. It's great to be enthusiastic about NAPLAN, but if it is causing yourself or your child stress, please come and speak with one of us. Our only wish is for students to do the best they can, and to feel confident doing it.

Vermont Oval

The works on the Vermont Oval next door are almost complete, and with the facilities looking great we can't wait to be able to access them again! We are hoping to get the go ahead to use the oval from council soon, and will keep the community informed of any updates. Please be aware of any road/traffic changes as a result as there are still trucks and work vans around the area.

Parent Teacher Interviews:

Parent Teacher Interviews are fast approaching. Please make a note of this in your calendar. They will be held on:

  • Monday 18th March 2024 from 3:45pm
  • Tuesday 19th March 2024 from 3:45pm

Further details about how to book have been sent out via COMPASS. If you have further questions, please contact your child's classroom teacher.  Bookings close at 5pm tomorrow (16th March) on COMPASS.

Working Bee

Tonight we had a great turn out for the first working bee if 2024. We thank Mrs Cook and Mr Hoskin for organising, and of course most importantly the parents and students who helped!

Foundation to Year 2 Assembly - 18th March

On Monday the 18th of March we have our next assembly. It will be for the Foundation to Year 2 students.

We have a few items on the agenda.  Some of these include:

- presentations of the Student of the Month awards

- presentation of the Planet Saver badges

- presentation of the Library Monitor badges

- and...a musical perfomance from one of our talented students.

After this assembly, the members of the Community Network invite you all to stay and have a cup of tea or coffee. You will have the opportunity to meet the Principals and have a chat with other parents.  Looking forward to seeing you there.
