Year 7 to Year 9

Years 8 and 9 - UWA Indigenous Studies Day

In Week 6, a group of our Year 8 and 9 students attended an Open Day at the University of Western Australia's School of Indigenous Studies. The excursion offered an exciting glimpse into possible future pathways, with students participating in engaging activities across the Science, Architecture, and Sport departments. They explored a variety of hands-on experiences while learning about the diverse courses and opportunities available at UWA.

It was a day filled with inspiration and discovery — thank you to Ms Lisa Thomas for organising such a valuable experience for our students!

Year 7 Orientation Day – A Warm Welcome to Our Future Students

On Tuesday, 19 November, we held our first Orientation Day for the incoming Year 7 students at Salvado Catholic College. The day was a celebration of everything we stand for as a ‘school of choice,’ reflected in the significant number of students joining us in 2024 and particularly in Years 7 and 8 in 2025.

The day began with a warm welcome from Mrs. Prendergast, who challenged the students to make new friends and enjoy the day. It was also highlighted the diverse representation among the group, noting that students from 26 different primary schools were in attendance. Following this, our exceptional Year Coordinators—Mr. Stone (Benedict), Ms. McLaughlin (Frayne), Mrs. Merry (MacKillop), and Ms. Long (Vincent)—led the students in engaging and fun activities.

Our Year 7/8/9 House Representatives played a vital role in the day’s success. These young leaders demonstrated their care and leadership by supporting and engaging with the incoming students throughout the day. A heartfelt thank you to the following students for their incredible contributions:

  • Year 9: Abigael Moukakou, Ella Rose Hendren, Amam Atem
  • Year 8: McAllen Ross, Nate Tingwell, Takyan Abel, Maka Makowa, Zoe Aplin
  • Year 7: Tayla Dunstan, Amelia Green, Sisan Lewis, Marlie Helliwell

Ms. MacDonald, our Year 7 Coordinator for 2025, also had the opportunity to meet her future students and begin preparations for next year. The day would not have been possible without the generous support of many staff members, whose contributions were greatly appreciated.

The event concluded on a high note, thanks to Mrs. Knight, who organised a wonderful performance by students in the CAS. They were:

Dancers

Sierra Woods, Willow Robertshaw, Avah Johnson, Keala Thomas, Ruby-Rose Williamson

Jaxxon Spencer, Ella Chapman

Musicians and Vocalists

Bailey Keogh, Emmett Manzi, Zoe Aplin, Cooper Riley, Sabrina Kidiga

With hands clapping and voices singing along, the students’ talents were on full display, embodying Salvado’s spirit and enthusiasm. A special thank you to Mrs. Knight and her amazing performers for using their God-given talents to inspire and bring joy to others.

It was truly a fantastic day, filled with energy, excitement, and a strong sense of community. We are so excited to welcome these students to our Salvado family in 2025!

Regards,

Mr Brendan McGrath
