Youth Advisory Council
The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is excited to announce the launch of a community consultation to shape the creation of our Youth Advisory Council (YAC). This initiative will provide young people aged 12-17 with a platform to share their ideas, influence decisions, and help shape the future of our community.
By providing your insights, our College community can help ensure the YAC reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of our youth.
To take part, please visit the consultation page here:Your Say SJ - Youth Advisory Council
The survey is quick and easy to complete (and you will go in the chance to win one of three $50 dollar vouchers!), and feedback will play a crucial role in guiding this initiative.
Year 6 Drop-In Day (SJ Youth Space)
The SJ Youth Space will be open on 29 December from 3:30pm to 6pm, to all current Year 6s to attend before they head into Secondary School in 2025!
The SJ Youth Space is a drop-in zone where young people between ages 12 and 17 can come after school to relax, play games, focus on homework, and build up on their life skills such as cooking, budgeting and goal setting. Our Youth Team are also able to assist young people with applications for jobs, further study, ABNs, some mental health referrals on top of linking them up with local opportunities for volunteering, grants and more. Most importantly, we operate as a safe zone for attendees to just chill out, play some games, create something artsy and make new friends.
The usual operation hours are Monday – Thursday during the school terms from 3:10pm to 5:30pm. We want the new Year 7s in 2025 to know that they have somewhere to go if they want to keep on socialising with friends or need to escape the heat in our air con. The best way we can showcase what we do is with a ‘come and go as you please’ style afternoon where we will put on our best workshops, activities, and programs that we had in the space during 2024. Parents and Guardians are encouraged to attend with their year 6 child, giving them an opportunity to ask the team questions, make suggestions where appropriate and see how it all works for themselves.
The Youth Space is located at Briggs Park Pavilion & Skate Park (address: 38 Mead Street Byford). Universal parking and toilets are available.
Although registrations are not mandatory, they are preferred as it will help the team with planning. Here is the Registration Link.
