Cooking
Over the next few weeks our class will be participating in the cooking programme. Thank you to Ms Leversha, Sara Hill, Louise, Lauren, Xiaolan and our Grade 5/ buddies for helping and supporting us. Here are some pictures of some of the yummy food that we have made so far!
Literacy
This term we have been learning about procedural texts and have participated in writing sessions where we have helped record and test the steps for making lots of things like a jam sandwich, milo, a sandcastle and popcorn. Mrs Q had to follow our procedural steps and has ended up doing some pretty silly things like putting butter on her head because we had said 'put the butter on' . Procedural writing has been very fun!
We have also been working to improve our narrative writing. Here are some samples of the stories we wrote about the 'Old House'.
Numeracy
This term we have been learning about time. We have been practising telling time to the hour as o'clock and half hour as half past. We can skip count by 5s around the clock and know that 30 minutes is the same as half past the hour and that o'clock is tricky because it can be 60 minutes and 0 minutes.
We have also been exploring measurement and measuring using informal units. Mrs Q got out lots of different things like unifix blocks, teddies, dice, paperclips, pegs and counters for us to measure with the other day and we had to measure the one item 3 different ways! We had to estimate how many of each item the length of our item would be before measuring and it was a bit tricky because when we measured the items needed to touch.
Mrs Q gave us all a math task to do. She read us the picture story book 'How Many Legs?' by Kes Gray and aske us to draw something attached to the legs behind the fence. Here are some of the ideas that we came up with:
I wonder what you could come up with?
