Principal's Message

As we head into the final stretch of the year, exciting events are happening at Kismet, each supporting student growth, resilience, and engagement. We encourage you to read on to learn more about how we’re fostering a strong, thriving school community.

Teacher Professional Learning Day – Berry Street Module 3

On our latest Teacher Professional Learning Day, staff participated in the Berry Street Education Model’s Module 3: Stamina and Engagement. This session introduced strategies to support students’ focus, perseverance, and emotional engagement, especially during challenging tasks. Teachers received practical tools and frameworks designed to strengthen students’ resilience and mental stamina, and the positive feedback from our staff has been inspiring. We look forward to using these techniques across our school.

Grade 6 Camp

Our Grade 6 students recently took part in an exciting adventure at The Summit, tackling outdoor challenges that promoted growth, teamwork, and confidence. For some, this was their first overnight stay away from home, giving them a chance to build independence. Activities like the Giant Swing, Mud Run, and "Leap of Faith" inspired students to step out of their comfort zones, create lifelong memories, and foster strong bonds of trust and empathy. This experience has equipped them with valuable skills and strengthened connections that will last well beyond camp.

First Prep Transition Day

This week, we welcomed our 2025 Prep students for their first transition session. These young learners explored the school, enjoyed fun activities, and began familiarizing themselves with their new environment. These sessions are designed to foster a positive outlook on school, build readiness for the classroom, and support relationship-building. Meanwhile, parents and carers attended an information session, where our leaders shared insights into a typical school day and ways they can support their children during this transition. We look forward to the upcoming sessions to continue building on this momentum.

Remembrance Day

On Monday, November 11, we will hold a school-wide ceremony to honour Remembrance Day. Students will participate in age-appropriate activities to reflect on peace, remembrance, and respect for those who served.

End of Year and Changes

As we approach the end of the year, it’s natural for some students to feel unsettled due to the upcoming changes and unknowns of the new school year, such as new teachers, classmates, and learning routines. Our staff is experienced in helping students navigate these transitions and are prepared to support them. We’ll be holding "Step Up" sessions where students can spend time in different classrooms with new peers, providing them with a sense of familiarity and readiness. These activities are designed to ease anxieties and build excitement for the year ahead.

At home, there are ways to support your child through this transition. Acknowledge their feelings about the changes without discussing the new school year too often. For example, if they’re worried about not knowing their future teacher, reassure them by explaining that teachers are excited to meet new students and are ready to support them. Encourage your child to focus on what’s certain, like the familiar faces they’ll see at school, instead of focusing on the “what ifs.” This can help ease their concerns and build confidence for the year ahead.

Thank you for your continual support and dedication to our students’ success and wellbeing.
