From the Principal
During last night’s Presentation Evening, the College recognised the academic achievements of our students, while also celebrating all of our students’ growth in character and conscience throughout the year.
During the evening, reference was also made to the College’s strengthened focus towards realising our key objectives of Enriching our Catholic Community of Faith; Inspiring Educational Excellence; Cura Personalis (care for the whole person); Nurturing an Inclusive Community; and Sustainability.
Particular achievements noted from this year included:
- The strengthening of our Secondary School Roncalli Service program through our Year 9 students’ involvement with residents from the aged care facility, Montgomery House.
- A thorough review of the Secondary School timetable, enabling greater flexibility to cater more effectively for student choice in 2025.
- The development of the first iteration of a Student Data Dashboard enabling ready access to easily interpretable student data to inform staff of the need for timely interventions.
- A strengthened Primary School Science program in Year 6 involving access to the Secondary School laboratories.
- A re-designed Primary School Design and Technology Program into an integrated Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program for implementation in 2025.
- The micro-credentialing of all College middle leaders in Growth Coaching to enable evidenced informed coaching conversations to support their teams.
- 5 teachers commencing the nationally accredited Highly Accomplished/Lead Teacher (HALT) program. Worth noting, since 2012 there were only 17 HALT accredited teachers in all of Western Australia. In one year, the College has added a further 5 and looks forward to an additional 5 teachers engaging in the program next year.
- The extension of Library access hours for Secondary students and commencement of the ‘homework help’ model involving external tutor supports for student access.
- The implementation of the College’s Teacher Professional Growth Model and the Leadership Review and Growth Plan designed to support our teachers’ professional and leadership growth.
- The launch of the College Wellbeing Framework and the student café round tables aimed at increasing student agency.
- The recognition of the College’s extensive work over many years to re-vegetate and support the endangered Carnaby’s Cockatoo with a QCE Award for outstanding innovation and initiative. Further, worth acknowledging is the College commitment, with the support of the Parents’ Association, to the installation of an extensive solar panel network designed to reduce our carbon footprint.
- The development of the College’s Reconciliation Action Plan and the re-ordering of the College Building Master plan priorities.
The delivery of an exceptional Catholic education would not be possible without the sustained commitment of all in our community. With this in mind, I offer my deepest thanks and congratulations to each member of our College community for a year full of successes, challenges and learning and particularly acknowledge my Executive team and all of our staff for their hard work and dedication.
As I concluded last night, long may we continue to cherish and emulate the virtues of our inspiring founders fostering a spirit of discernment, love, and service within our College community and beyond.

John XXIII College Council: Property and Planning Committee
The College Council is establishing a pool of qualified and interested College parents from which to seek members for the Property and Planning Committee as positions become available. A skill set and experience in town planning and environmental planning would be highly regarded.
The Committee's responsibilities include ensuring that the physical condition of the College is kept in good repair, with provision for ongoing maintenance and planning for future needs, developments and acquisitions. Meetings are held bi-monthly, generally early on a Thursday morning. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the governance of the College.
Initial inquiries and expressions of interest to join the pool of candidates should be directed to the College Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Mr John Cumming. For further information, please email john.cumming@johnxxiii.edu.au or phone
