YEAR 3/4 FRIENDLY GAMES DAY Vs Sorrento Primary
Last Wednesday, our 3/4s selected a sport to play in against our neighbours, the Sorrento Primary 3/4 students where the aim of the day was about fun, participation and social interaction. They played in netball, soccer, kanga cricket or volleystars and all had a wonderful time, playing in a round-robin competition and playing around 3-4 games. Luckily, the weather was kind to us! The soccer and cricket was played at Sorrento Oval, while the netball and volleystars was played at Sorrento Netball Courts. Some said the best part was getting together at the end to have an icy pole together back at the netball courts and chatting with their Sorrento friends. Special thank you to Assunta and Sarsha for their help with setting up our School Shelter which came in handy. Thanks also to Kym, Adrian, Hope and all parents who assisted on the day. Thanks also to the teachers and staff from both schools for their assistance on the day and for our Year 6 umpires and referees: Seb, Corbin, Sunny, Lochie, Billie, Tahlia, Anneke and Ella.
PREP TO YEAR 4 INTENSIVE SWIMMING PROGRAM - Look out for your child's certificate!
Having finished our Intensive Swimming Program for Term 4, all Prep to Year 4 students who took part in the testing day on the Friday will shortly receive a ST JOSEPH'S SWIM PROGRAM CERTIFICATE detailing their progress to bring home. Look out for this. It will be coming home in their schoolbag (dangerous territory)!
The students will make cards to thank our wonderful swim teachers for their time. Special THANK YOU to staff members, Mrs Hayes, Mrs O'Shannassy and Mel McFayden for getting in the water and assisting with teaching a group across the week. THANK YOU EVEN MORE SO to our wonderful VOLUNTEERS who maintain their swim teacher qualification and donate their time to helping me teach the students of St Joseph's:
Bill Green, Leonie Gagliardi, Annabel White, Jacki Smith and Leigh Todd.
Please thank them when you see them for this important work that they do at St Joseph's!
3/4 & 5/6 Badminton Doubles Tournaments were held today during PE Classes
Today, the students were randomly paired off and took part in a round-robin tournament where they played a number of games in a division before playing off for finals. While winning was secondary to having the chance to apply some of the skills learnt through the unit and from the Badminton Victoria Clinics, some students took the chance to win at a different kind of sport pretty seriously!! We were lucky to have been given another Sporting Schools Grant this term which helped supply some great new equipment for our school.
Keep active and safe over the summer holidays!
Enjoy your break with your families.
Warm Regards,
Jenny Todd
