Dear Parents / Carers,

Our Beyond Boundaries Week always brings a level of excitement across the school. All our students have participated in an adventure experience with an activity or task that has taken them into the stretch zone. In the stretch zone, we do not want our students to feel panicked or overwhelmed, rather we want them to step up to the challenge.

Psychologist Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi purports that people are happiest when they are in a state of flow, defined as being absorbed in a task where skill, interest and enjoyment are perfectly matched. This was definitely evident in all our Beyond Boundaries Adventure Programs this week.

I was privileged to attend the Foundation Beyond Boundaries circus experience at Ruccis on Tuesday. What a stretch experience it was that took students out of their comfort zone.  Our youngest students participated in a workshop where they tried a range of circus skills including balancing on tightropes, climbing silks, swinging on trapeze, tumbling on trampolines, juggling, hula-hooping and plate spinning. It was fantastic to see the perseverance our students showed when faced with challenges, but most of all I loved seeing their faces beam with a sense of pride when they achieved.

Eyad – I loved the tightrope because it was so fun, and it stretched my balancing.

Molly – At Ruccis my favourite thing was playing with the silks and spinning around.

Aleeyah – I loved doing a bridge on the silks.

Jacob – I liked making a cocoon in the silks and relaxing inside.

Dwayne – I liked jumping high on the trampoline and going on the big globes.

Charlie G – I liked making a starfish and cocoon in the silks.

Josh – I liked swinging on the trapeze.  I had to jump up all by myself and grab the high bar.

Our Year One students were buzzing in the playground yesterday as they prepared for their day adventure to Ninja Parc. This experience allowed students to overcome their fears and demonstrate perseverance as they conquered a range of ‘stretch’ activities such as the curved wall and the big obstacle course. The curved wall was a favourite, with many students pushing themselves to improve, while celebrating the achievements of their peers.

Lona – At Ninja Parc, I like running up the medium wall and I made it to the top!

Willow – My highlight was the obstacle course in the middle because I did lots of running and jumping and stayed warm.

Hudson – I loved running up the wall because at the end there was a slide.  Even though it was hard I achieved getting to the top!

Kalila – I liked the running walls because sometimes they were hard, and you had to persist and keep trying.

Hayley – I liked running up the wall because at the top you got to go down a slide to get to the ground.

Jack Sr – When I went to Ninja Parc the obstacle course had hanging plates with little, tiny foot holders and we had to try and cross it even though they were not connected, and it was really wobbly.  It took me 40 tries to finish it but I did it in the end!

Daniel – The spider wall made us stretch.  We had to move our legs and hands at the same time to go forwards and it was so slippery!  I had to really persist because it took me 12 tries to get to the end.

The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal 2024

This morning, our Year 3 choir students did a wonderful job opening the 2024 annual Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal at Stud Park. Our school has been involved with this event for 20 years. In conjunction with the Salvation Army, Kmart encourages those in our community who can provide a gift to attach a wishing tree sticker to the gift (unwrapped) and place it in the gift giving boxes under the Wishing Tree. We love that The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal helps those in need at Christmas and beyond, because a little thought goes a long way. Our Choir sang beautifully, especially after three adventure packed days on their first camp! Thank you to the parents and grandparents who came along and supported our students.  We encourage our school community that are able to support this wonderful initiative to get involved.

I hope all of our students, families and teachers have a relaxing weekend.

Kind regards,
