Wow, what a year we have had! We cannot believe how quickly it has passed by! It has been a fantastic year full of lots of learning, especially in the Wellbeing Space. We learnt many strategies for calling techniques, how to ask for help, talked about treating each other equally, we learnt about different types of emotions and how to be a good friend! It has been a big year with many wonderful different well-being events! Especially our Wellbeing Expo, which was a hit! We cannot wait for a new year of learning to come!
Our PBL lessons this week focused on Positive Self-Talk and Affirmations. Using Positive Self-Talk and Affirmations is part of our school's value of Resilience. Positive Self-Talk helps students build confidence, self-image, and a growth mindset. In class, students made their own Affirmation Posters! They can use these affirmations to say to themselves each day! They have done an amazing job creating these. Here are a few examples.
Check out the 3/4 page to see the posters they developed on Canva!
On Monday, December 16th, we will be celebrating the wonderful Respectful, Responsible, and Resilient Behaviour that we have exhibited in Terms 3 and 4! The students have managed to fill the Gotcha tower to the top, so we are excited to celebrate their amazing behaviour with a special reward. This will happen in the afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m.
Students will have a fun afternoon with a big jumping castle, a jumping castle obstacle course and lots of carnival-type games! We are so excited for this! Thank you to our PBL Leaders, Sophie Pye and Mahli Boland, for being our student representatives and helping organise this fun day!
On the day, we will also have some fun carnival-type activities. The Year 1/2s will run a Caritas Fundraiser! Check out the R.E. page to find out more.
This year, the SRC team organised a revamping of the Gaga pit! The pit had some artificial grass on the side earlier in the year, making it fantastic for the kids to play on! The next phase is to paint the outside of it! Yesterday, the Foundation students were the first to get it started! They designed and painted this. Well done, Foundations! We are looking forward to the other classes painting the other sides of the pit!
We were incredibly appreciative and grateful for a $2500.00 donation from The Church of Christ to support an initiative to support the well-being of our students. This money has been designated to provide more resources that students can use at lunchtime, offering them a wide array of activities they can participate in. We look forward to these resources promoting different types of play and connections between our students. Below are some images of items that will be purchased for the new year.
I am writing this to let you all know that I have passed my Master of Education degree, specialising in Student Wellbeing, and will graduate in December! You may recall the last newsletter I shared about my big 6000-word project with you. It feels lovely to have it done, finally, and I am very grateful for all the new skills I have developed. I am looking forward to continuing to embed those at St Joseph's! I feel very grateful that I get to work in such an amazing school with a fantastic community!
This year, we have had a project to redo our signs under the shade sails with our PBL school values of respect, responsibility, and resilience. To make it more personalised, each student drew a picture of themselves to add to the signs! They have done an amazing job and they look so amazing!! We are really proud with how they light up our school! Thank you to all the staff that made this happen, particularly Mrs Hermansen, for using art time to create these and Anthony, for putting the signs on the wall. We hope you love them as much as we do!!
We had so much fun in our last Friendship Groups of the year, writing each other warm and fuzzy notes to make us feel good inside. It is so lovely having Friendship Groups to establish new student connections! It has been an amazing year of learning and growing together!
Here are some photos from Red Group.
If I don't see you before the end of the year, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! I hope you managed to get away and spend it doing something fun!
