Melbourne Walks Excursion
Last Tuesday, the 5/6s went on an excursion into the city. In groups, we walked around to different landmarks in Melbourne with a tour guide, with a focus on economics to tie in with our Inquiry unit.
Here are some summaries of the excursion written by Isabella, Marley and Summer.
On Tuesday 19th of November, we went to Melbourne.
We spilt into a few groups and walked around with a tour guide. Students got given some information on people who were important in the history of Melbourne and learnt some of the history and the trades of Melbourne. Our tour guide took us down a laneway and gave us mini plastic characters to take pictures of in front of artwork we found interesting. Lots of tourists come into Melbourne to look at the laneway artwork which helps our economy. Our tour guide gave us Freddo Frogs, Eucalyptus Honey Drops and some old tram tickets. We had lunch at the park in Birrarung Marr, where we got to use up our energy. Overall we had an amazing time and learnt a lot!

Inquiry - How do people make decisions to buy things?
This week in our Inquiry unit we have been exploring the idea of needs vs wants and the influences on consumer choices. The students looked at how to make informed consumer choices and the idea that wants have become a part of our lives and are often marketed as a need... we need shoes to protect our feet but do we need the most expensive, popular pair? Some very interesting discussions were had!
Door Wars!
Both 5/6 classes are busy planning a Christmas-themed door to take part in the whole school Door Wars.... we've had some fantastic suggestions and the students are eager to get to work!
