16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
At OLHC, we believe in nurturing a generation that values respect, equality, and kindness. As part of our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment, we’re excited to join the global movement of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, taking place from November 25 to December 10.
This campaign highlights the importance of standing up against all forms of violence, fostering understanding, and promoting positive actions within our school and community.
What Are the 16 Days of Activism?
This worldwide initiative calls attention to the need for safer spaces where everyone—regardless of gender, race, or background—can thrive. It starts on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and concludes on Human Rights Day.
While its roots focus on combating gender-based violence, it’s a powerful opportunity to teach our children about kindness, equality, and standing up for what’s right.
How We’re Getting Involved at School
Throughout the campaign, students will engage in age-appropriate activities that focus on:
- Respect & Empathy: Understanding the importance of treating everyone with kindness.
- Personal Strengths: We all have strengths we can share with the world that are not determined by our gender
- Standing Up for Others: Encouraging bystander action in respectful and empowering ways.
Activities include:
- Classroom Discussions: Exploring themes of fairness and inclusion, especially through digital media
- Art Projects: Designing cards that represent different personal strengths
How You Can Support at Home
Here are ways to extend the message beyond the classroom:
- Talk About It: Share age-appropriate conversations about fairness, respect, and standing up against harm.
- Model Positive Behavior: Show kindness and empathy in your interactions. Children learn by example!
- Engage with Community Events: Many local organisations around Nillumbik such as the Eltham Leisure Centre and Eltham Library host events during these 16 days - join in!
Together for a Brighter Future
By taking part in the 16 Days of Activism, we’re planting seeds for a generation that values peace, respect, and equality. Thank you for supporting this important initiative and helping us create a better future for all.
