STEP INTO 2025
On Tuesday evening, we hosted a fantastic Step into 2025 Family Education Night!
This event was a wonderful opportunity for our students to get a glimpse of what 2025 could look like and for parents and carers to actively engage in school life here at Greenhills.
At Greenhills, we place great importance on supporting positive transitions, and this event is just one example of how we continue to strengthen this focus each year. We're delighted to share that results from our recent Parent Opinion Survey were very encouraging, with 87% of parents agreeing that “My child has been supported this year to adjust to their new level.” Also 83% feel confident that “This school prepares students for their next phase of schooling.”
Creating a positive transition means giving students opportunities to experience their new environments, learning spaces, expectations, and routines of the next stage of their education in a strategic and supportive way. We understand that anxiety levels among students are rising, and our aim is to ease these challenges by removing some of the uncertainties that can cause extra stress.
Here are some things you can say that will support them in their transition.
Normalise their feelings by saying, "it's okay to feel nervous about starting in a new classroom. Many kids feel the same way, and it usually gets better once you get settled."
Focus on the positives by saying, "think about all the fun new things you'll get to do next year, like meeting new friends, and learning new and exciting things.
Share your own experiences of overcoming new challenges to show them they’re not alone and that their feelings are valid.
Encourage problem solving, "If you feel nervous, what could you do?” Perhaps you can role-play scenarios they’re worried about, like asking for help or making friends, to build their confidence.
All these strategies help support your child and any apprehension they have towards the upcoming changes.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special night. Together, we’re making every step count toward a bright and confident future for our students!
