Sustainability
National Recycling Week
This year we have been working hard to improve sustainability at BPS and this week, our school registered to participate in Planet ARK's National Recycling Week. Our Sustainability Leader, Jack O'Riley, created daily slides and activities for teachers to share with their classes to learn more about recycling.
We discovered that plastic is a huge issue for sustainability and we
learned about how to reuse items and the order in which we try to use. This link has some fun ways to reuse.
At our school we have some composting on site. We also have green waste recycling bins to send our food scraps to be commercially composted for farmland rejuvenation.
We are composting approximately 240 litres of food scraps per week at the moment. Last year much of this would have gone into our landfill bins and produced greenhouse gases.
Here are some examples of how our school has become more sustainable over the last 12 months. Well done everyone and a big thank you to Jack O'Riley for his leadership in this important area.
