Can you believe it’s already week 6! Students continue to impress not only us but also themselves with the progress they’re making! This term, they’ve been focusing on the components of HOLM NMF (Handshape, Orientation, Location, Movement, Non-Manual Features), with special attention to the flat handshape. Their “I can” goal this term was to list flat signs using list buoys, and we’re thrilled to say they’ve achieved it with flying colours! With this success under their belts, students are now moving on to revision in preparation for 2024 as we head toward the Christmas break.

At our Primary Assembly last week, we were treated to a performance by students from 1/2B, who did a wonderful job showcasing their skills and hard work. We’re looking forward to wrapping up the term on a high note and celebrating their accomplishments together!

Y7

Year 7s did it! They have successfully completed their final assessment for Year 7 Auslan – deaf clap (jazz hands in the air)! In their last unit, “My Weird Family,” students put their creativity to the test, using list buoys, family signs, Size and Shape Specifiers (SASS), and Depicting Signs (DS) to create the most imaginative and quirky family members ever! From animal siblings to aunts with wild hairstyles, we were treated to some incredible presentations that truly showcased their skills and sense of fun.

Grades for this assessment will be released at the end of the day on Friday 15 November, and we couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and progress. Now, with this strong foundation, Year 7s have their “Flying Start” as they prepare to take on Year 8 Auslan.

The end of the year is near, and we’re thrilled to see these students step up to the next level with confidence and enthusiasm!

Kind regards,
