Year Three - Spotlight on Learning
Dear Families,
Thank you to all families who attended the Christmas Carols sessions either at the matinee session or the evening session. Students had a fantastic experience of presenting the Christmas carol ‘Oh, What a Glorious Night!’ and showing their singing skills. It was a great opportunity to have all families, staff and children participate in this special end of year celebration. The weather held out, and many families enjoyed a picnic dinner with many tasty treats from the variety of food vans on the oval.

We have finally arrived at the last week of the school year. Students will be participating in formal lessons this week and completing assessments, so it is still a very important time for learning to occur. They are all to be congratulated for focussing so well on their studies and doing their best right to the end. Things to look out for this week include:
- On Tuesday 10th December, students will be placed into their 2025 classes at 11:45am. Students will learn the names of their 2025 class teachers, as well as their communities and which peers will be in their class. At this time, students will be with a current teacher in their new class groupings in their current learning space. The session will involve a circle time, an activity and a chance to watch a video of their new teacher / teachers.
- By Wednesday 11th December, students should have brought home any pieces of artwork or bookwork to support them in not having overly heavy bags laden with too many things.
- Formal lessons will conclude on Friday 13th December so this will be the last day of school for most students. Students will participate in a special incursion on this day to finish off a wonderful year together.
On the last day of school, Friday 13th December, students will take part in a special cultural incursion. This will focus on Aboriginal dance, drama, and music. The students will learn about important Aboriginal stories, which teach about family and connection. They will also create and perform a dance that shows the beauty of Dreaming stories. Lastly they will perform a final dance using both traditional and creative movements, inspired by Australian animals. This experience will help students understand more about Aboriginal culture and give them a chance to express themselves in a creative way. We are looking forward to the students sharing what they learn as well as performing during this exciting day.
Our Learning Focus for this week, Week 9 . . .
Mathematics: In Maths students have learnt how to measure and compare capacity using scaled instruments, focussing on keywords such as litres and millilitres. Students have been able to order these capacities, as well as estimate and check their measurements.
English: In Writing students have completed writing a postcard to their 2025 teacher, introducing themselves and their likes and dislikes. Students have continued to read ‘Off We Go Around Australia’ by Roland Harvey. This book is a collection of Roland Harvey’s hilarious illustrated family holiday books all rolled into one hugely entertaining Australian adventure. Students have not only been immersed in some of the great adventures the characters have in Australia, but also learnt and applied the new vocabulary from the story.
Religious Education: As we continue on our journey towards Christmas, students have participated in the second week of Advent prayer service, focussing on the theme of PEACE and lighting the second candle. This candle is also known as the Bethlehem candle - Micah foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, which was also the birthplace of King David. Students also participated in the Advent Prayer Service for the third week of Advent, where the third candle was lit. This week the Advent theme is focussed on JOY. The birth of Jesus is getting closer and we are all filled with joy at this event. The third candle takes us back to the joyful anticipation of the shepherds who journeyed to see Jesus in Bethlehem, even before the wise men.
Integrated Studies / Music: In Lesson 8 of the Amplify Music Programme, students have learnt about dynamics in music. Dynamics in music refers to how loud or soft the music is. Students completed some listening exercises and analysed why composers would have used particular dynamics in their songs.
