In STSS, students have continued to expand their understanding in Science, Technology, Sustainability and Stewardship.
Foundation - Year 2 Our junior learners have continued to explore concepts of light and how it behaves when brought into contact with transparent, translucent and opaque materials. Students learned about sources of light including living things that emit light through bioluminescence. They revisited learning concepts around sound and used their construction skills to create musical instruments. These were created using a range of materials also considering potential recycled materials, in connection with our focus on sustainability and stewardship.
Year 3 - 4 In the middle years, students continued their learning about heat. They recently participated in a scientific investigation exploring how factors such as radiant heat from the sun, location, colour and materials can impact the temperatures of objects located around school. Following on from this, students used their new learnings to plan and create a playground design with considerations such as materials, function and sustainability as part of their design process.
Year 5 - 6 Our senior students continued learning about how light can refract (bend) when it travels through air or water. Students put their learning about light into practice by exploring light refraction with the use of light boxes and different types of prisms. They also enjoyed creating shadow puppet designs to explore how opaque materials affect the angles and behaviour of light.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support for our learners this year and wish you a safe, happy and restful holiday break.
