Year 5 & 6
Around our level
In class this semester, we have explored how a range of not-for-profit organisations make a positive impact on communities in need. We learned how they focus on helping people and making the world a better place, instead of making money. They use all the money they get to help communities, solve problems, and take care of things, like the environment or people in need.
So over the past two weeks, our students have been hard at work planning, designing, and making a range of fantastic products to sell at the Year 5/6 Bazaar. All funds raised will be donated to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.
Throughout this project, students have worked in teams demonstrating compromise, tolerance, and problem-solving skills.
Please keep an eye out for the date of our upcoming Bazaar, and in the meantime, take a read of some student reflections on their experiences of working in teams to build their products.
Over the last few weeks, the Year 5 students have been participating in a Leadership Program to prepare them for Year 6. We also look at the skills needed to be a captain at YRPS. This program focuses on developing essential leadership skills, including effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Students have also explored the qualities and attributes needed to become a captain at YRPS, such as leading by example, demonstrating initiative, and fostering inclusivity within the school community. Through interactive workshops, group discussions, and practical activities, students have had the opportunity to reflect on their strengths and consider how they can positively contribute as leaders in the coming year.
5/6A
I am in a group of 5 people. Ivy, Jade, Chloe P and Cleo. My group are making bracelets and christmas ornaments. We are making bracelets because Jade had a lot of beads to make the bracelets. We are also making Christmas ornaments, originally we were making Dream Catchers but they were hard to make so we ended up just making the Christmas ornaments.
- Chloe B
We are making Christmas trees out of dried spaghetti. We chose the spaghetti because it is easy to find and we are going to paint the spaghetti green and glue them together and put decorations on them.
- Jeremy F
In my group are Oscar M, Oscar F and myself and we are making balloons that look like basketballs. We are making them with duct tape and balloons. We are also making little ping pong balls into soccer balls and mini basketballs using permanent markers. We will also have a little mini hoop game, we chose these items because we wanted to have a sport themed stall.
- Max A
5/6B
I am in a group with Belle and Sarah. Our group name is SSBF. We are making clay pets with adoption certificates and a game. For the game you have to knock over six cups using a mini bow and an arrow. The people get 3 shots to knock them over. We have tested the game on people and it works very well. I am excited for the Bazaar and we chose to make the clay things because Sarah had the good clay and we chose to do the archery game because Belle and I know a lot about the game since we created the mini bows and arrows.
- Sophie K
My group and I are making bracelets, anklets, necklaces, polymer clay figurines, and piggy figurines. We chose to make these items because from past experiences bracelets will sell well. We also thought making polymer clay figures would be creative and smart, and that they might sell well. We also thought that the materials would be easy to find and that we could work together as a team.
- Caitlin V
Cooper H, Jack H, Ben W, Kade J and I are making flick footies. You can win a free flick footy by paying to play the game and scoring a goal. We are also selling custom made flick footies and balloon basketballs.
- Kaden D
5/6B
My group includes Emma, Olivia and me. We are making bracelets and we're doing a raffle for people to enter by paying or winning. We have a game called: Toss the Ball into the Cup, which is where people have to toss a little ball into a plastic cup. You can win a bracelet or maybe two, a raffle ticket or both a bracelet and a raffle ticket! The types of bracelets that we are making are Loom and bead. There is a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd place. The main prize is a massive teddy bear and second main prize is a moody octopus in a cage. There isn't really anything like a main prize for third place.
- Hunter W
5/6C
My group is making bracelets, body and lip scrubs, keychains, mystery boxes and Christmas bon bons. We are doing these things because we thought it would be a good idea to do a variety of things.
- Sadie C
I'm in a group with Ella, Sophie and Harper. We are making bracelets, key chains, crochet and hair accessories. We all do it together.
