Around Our Level

Last Friday we had the Prep Alphabet Concert, which was a highlight and celebration of all the children’s learning of their letters and sounds. The children sang and performed several different items to their parents. Our students came dressed in costumes for each letter of the alphabet.

The Preps performed 'ABC', 'A is for Apple', 'Old McDonald Had Some Vowels', 'BINGO', 'Home Among the Gum Trees', 'NSEW', and 'Every Day's a Special Day'. There was time to take lots of photos before we paraded through each of the classrooms. A big thank you to all the parents that attended our Alphabet Concert. We certainly had a lot of fun!

In Literacy, we have been learning about the diagraphs 'ck', 'th', 'sh' and 'ch', in CVC words. We have been undertaking Dibbels Assessments to test letter recognition, reading fluency, and blending and segmenting. We read the story, ‘Mister Seahorse’, and the ‘Very Lazy Bug’ by Eric Carle, with a focus on setting, characters, and plot.

In Maths, we have revisited tally marks, learned to ask yes/no questions, and how to survey classmates to collect data and represent this information. Students created a new toy this week, and convinced their classmates to ask them if they would buy their new toy. We have also been undertaking revision activities for numbers and completing our special number booklets.

Last week our Prep students came very well prepared for their ‘Me in a Bag’ presentations. We thoroughly enjoyed learning more about their sports, hobbies, and passions outside of school, and sharing photos of family holidays and adventures. Students were marked on using a confident voice and being able to convey to the audience why their items were special to them. This formed part of their assessment in Speaking and Listening, which is an important and key learning area in Literacy.

Next week our Preps will be heading off to Aquanation to participate in our school swimming program. We hope to see lots of parents there.
