Athletics Carnival 2024

With the sun shining brightly there was never any doubt that this year’s Athletics Carnival would be anything less than spectacular. We are once again in debted to Mr Gerard Brown our sports manager and his incredible team made up of many staff who willingly go beyond their duties to ensure we have a first class and highly entertaining Athletics Carnival.

There were too many highlights to list here, but the colour and creativity of the senior students’ costumes celebrating their House patrons were outstanding. Whether participating in the field and track events or cheering from the stands, students and staff did not waiver in their energy levels. It was a fun filled day that celebrated the courage and talents of our students. The DJ kept the energy up with great music we could all cheer and dance to. House spirit competition was taken to a new level with the addition of a House Captains Air Guitar competition. The usual House chants echoed throughout the stadium for the entire day only challenged by the new House Dance Competition. A specially selected song for each House was played by the DJ, and the House battled it out in the stands with incredible and entertaining dance moves, especially those from the House Leaders and Learning Advisors who bravely displayed their talents. The staff vs student relay was as always a great event resulting in the students taking the win.

Thank you, all the competitors, cheer squads, and a special thank you to our VCE VM students who kept the BBQ going ensuring there was plenty of delicious food to buy. We also recognise the great work of our student helpers who kept staff well hydrated with endless cups of tea, coffee, and cordial.

The results are in: Congratulations to ASSISI House winning the 2024 Athletics Shield and MacKillop winning the House Spirit Shield.

Congratulations to all Houses.

A great resource for parents, guardians, caregivers, and young people.

We know that our young people are in some ways living very different lives to what we may have experienced in our youth. At times they are confronted with issues and trends that are not always simple or pleasant and may even create tension and confusion. Part of growing up is working out who you are and where you fit in. With many young people struggling to find answers to these questions self-doubt and confusion can become a default position leading to heightened emotions, anxiety, and depression. We know as adults that these are life questions which continue to challenge us as we grow, change, and move through life’s journeys. Hindsight and experience are critical to provide context and balance when confronted with difficult and challenging situations. Our role is to help young people develop resilience, patience and understanding that sometimes life is tough, but with support and love they will not just survive they will thrive.

School TV is a fantastic resource that can support families to develop their understanding of the more contemporary issues young people are facing today. We have subscribed to this program for the benefit and use of our families, students, and teachers. If you are new to the school or have not yet had the opportunity to access this resource, I encourage you to do so today. I have listed just afew of the topics that are covered and included the link in this Newsletter edition.

You can also access School TV via the logo on our website and on the Parent SPACE page/portal. The information is researched based, from leading educational and child psychologists and covers many topics and issues from respectful relationships, through to the current pressures on young people such as vaping, online gambling and many more. We hope you find this resource valuable.

May is traditionally dedicated to Mary, Mother of God.

During this month we honour Mary and seek her prayers for the world. “For all those who have no peace, let us invoke Mary, the woman who brought into the world the Prince of Peace.”

This weekend we celebrate our mums, grandmothers, and those women who have taken on the role of mother. We give thanks and ask for God’s blessing for all the mums in our lives. Wishing you all a mother’s wonderful day.

A quick reminder about Operoo.

Please check that the email you have provided Operoo as the contact email to receive

  • Operoo notifications is correct.
  • We do not accept phone calls or emails on the day of an excursion or event to rectify a failure by the parent to respond to the Operoo.

Finally I would ask that all parents respect the office team when dealing with matters concerning this. The office team are not authorised to respond for a parent or alter a parent’s response, this remains the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

Thank you for your continued support of our office team.
