CROSS  COUNTRY 2024 

 

 

This year, all St Mary’s students will be participating in our annual Cross Country event on Friday 3rd May.

 

Students in Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 will be running the cross-country track around the garden and the oval.

 

Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5 and Grade 6 students will be running on the track across the road on the Hastings Foreshore.  

 

We run this event as a House-Spirit building opportunity and all students and staff are encouraged to wear house-spirit colours: ribbons, socks, tee-shirts etc (if they have them).

Assembly on the basketball court in house teams

House Spirit leaders will have areas ready for each house team to sit in and cheer on their runners.
Race 1

Grade 1s

 

Students will run the cross-country track on school grounds for 10 minutes and see how many times they can run around it.

It is an individual challenge to see how far they can run. 

Each student will receive house points for their team in the following ways:

-participation

-individual effort

-house spirit

Each student receives a participation ribbon on the day.

Wrap up Finish and collation of house spirit points

RECESS

 
11.15 am

Grades 3,4,5 and 6 students

 

Students will walk to the foreshore cross-country track and gather in house team groups. Students will run the races in their age groups and compete to earn house points for their team.

Each student will receive house points for their team in the following ways:

-participation

-individual effort

-house spirit

Each student receives a participation ribbon on the day.

Race 18/9/10 yr olds
Race 211 yr olds
Race 312/13 yr olds

-Students competing in the 8/9/10yr old races will complete a 2km race.

-Students competing in the 11/12/13 yr old races will complete a 3km race.

 

We will require parent helpers on the day for both events. Please let Lisa know if you are able to assist on the day. We need at least 6 helpers to run a safe event.

St Mary’s District Cross Country runners will be determined from this event which is being held on Thursday 9th May at the Hastings Foreshore.

 

For students in Grade 3-6 walking to the foreshore, permission is covered in our Local Excursion Permission note (please ensure you have completed this).

Student Sporting Achievements.

Congratulations to Gus Rolston who was the recipient of the ANZAC medal for his sportsmanship, respect and courage in the game against Rye.

Also well done to Joe Dwight on some recent achievements in his sporting endeavours:

captain of his U11 Hastings football team and most improved for his basketball team.
