Focus on Learning

Kindergarten- Mrs Nichols

Mathematics

In Kindergarten we are learning to read numerals (numbers) and represent (make /show) whole numbers to at least 20. We are working hard to count forward and backwards from 30, as well as saying the number before or after a given number. To be able to achieve great results in our Maths we use; 100's Charts, Numicon blocks, whiteboards, connecting blocks, number lines and flash cards. Check out our fabulous work!

Writing

In our Literacy Block we are learning to write sentences using description, to give the reader more information. To do this we make sure that our writing ALWAYS has a capital letter, sensible spaces and full stops. We are working to add descriptive words (adjectives) and a noun in our writing to make it more interesting.  Our sentence starter was "Here is my cat". We created a brainstorm of the words to describe the cat and then used these in our writing.

Reading

We have been learning to read with fluency as well as instantly recognise STAR Words in the book, while following along with our fingers. We always talk about what happened in the story and see if we can make any connection to our lives. It is very important that we continue to learn STAR Words at home, we have two children who received their Rising Star Award, for retaining 50 STAR words.
