INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
LHS and Rookie Band News
Congratulations to the LHS Band for their first 2024 public performance at the Grade 6 Information Evening on Thursday 18 April. It was slightly different this year with the performance taking place under the PAC Foyer Veranda, but the band drew quite a crowd and rousing applause.
Thank you to Noah Vincent and Ayla Harnett (Year 12), who also entertained visitors with their acoustic vocal and guitar set during the tours.
Our beginning students have commenced Rookie Band rehearsals this term with Mrs Ventura, and are already shaping up to be a fabulous group of musicians. Students will have pieces to practice with their Instrumental Music teacher and at home over the coming weeks. Mrs Ventura and Ms Goode will be presenting the Captain’s Badge in the coming weeks.
The Art of Jam - Jazz Workshop
Our third jamming workshop was again, a huge success with students across all year levels joining professional jazz group, Poet Street, for an afternoon and evening of music-making.
Woodwind, brass, guitar, keyboard, percussion and vocalists worked in sectionals on 2 pieces that were then performed for family and friends at a showcase gig in the Theatre. It is a fabulous opportunity for students to experience and develop their improvisational skill set in performance. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Farewell Matt
Our guitar teacher, Matt Tzivakis has gained full-time employment in another career pathway so is unable to continue teaching in our Instrumental Program. We thank Matt for all he has contributed to music here at LHS and wish him well in his new job.
We have secured a new guitar teacher, Damien Thomas, who commenced lessons in Week 6 of this term. We thank families for their patience as we secured a suitable replacement.
Fabulous Achievement
Congratulations to Sigourney Crocker in 8A who achieved an A+ for her preliminary AMEB piano exam. This is a wonderful result and well-deserved.
