From the Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 2. It has been wonderful to see everyone settled back into school routine so quickly. Earlier this week Richard and I visited classrooms to see the learning and teaching at Galilee in action. It was fantastic to see students excitedly engaged in learning and confidently tell us what they were learning about. At Galilee we boast wonderful academic results and this is due to the high standards of learning and teaching we have.

In Term 2 we have many exciting events planned. All of these events are on our parent Google calendar.  At the bottom of this messsage we have put together a snapshot of the term’s events. Please note that these events are subject to change and if they do change we will inform you and update the parent calendar, but this document will not change.

School Uniform in Term 2

As we head towards the cooler months we will slowly transition towards students wearing winter uniforms.

For the first two weeks of Term 2 students are able to wear either full summer uniform or full winter uniform. Students are not able to wear a combination of winter and summer uniform. There is no requirement that students wear hats, but it is recommended on particularly sunny days.

From Monday 29th April all students are required to wear full winter uniform when at school.

Next Friday is a School Closure Day at Galilee

Next Friday, 26th April, is a School Closure Day at Galilee. The school will be closed for students and teachers. GOSH, our out of hours provider, will operate and children can be booked in to attend the out of hours program using the TheirCare website. If you are using this service we encourage you to book in early to avoid disappointment as places are limited.

Last year there was a new agreement regarding time in lieu for teachers for the first time. Time in lieu was introduced to recognise the additional hours that all teachers do within a school community. Time in lieu is granted when teachers attend out of hours events such as school camps, family faith nights, art shows, carols etc. For some schools, this has meant that some out of hours events have been cancelled. At Galilee we have not cancelled any of our normal out of hour events or activities. We are continuing to run all normal events and activities and we are balancing these additional activities with a small number of school closure days where teachers are not required to attend school based professional development. The number of school closure days are no different to what has occurred in previous years.

ANZAC Day

Next Thursday 25th April is ANZAC Day (Public Holiday). We will celebrate ANZAC Day at Galilee on Wednesday 24th with a Special Assembly. The whole school will gather just before 11am for readings followed by wreath laying and a minute silence. Parents of readers are invited to attend, (teachers will advise the parents of readers prior to the day) however we ask that other parents do not attend due to space limitations.
