Miss Katie Smith

Year 3&4

This term students are exploring Earth and Space sciences, specifically weathering and erosion. Students have explored the characteristics of different types of soils by physically examining soil samples from around the school and from home. They have also conducted the "Jar Test" to analyse soil samples to determine if they have a sand, silt, loam, or clay soil.

Year 5&6

This term students are learning about Earth and Space sciences, especially natural disasters. Students started their learning by making a play dough model of the Earth which showed all the different layers. They then explored divergent, convergent, and transform tectonic plate boundaries using pieces of cardboard and shaving cream to stimulate the movement. Our Year 5&6 scientists have also learned about earthquakes and created a structure that could survive an earthquake.
