Grade 1 Report

Excitement filled the air as the Grade One students entered their classrooms after a terrific holiday! It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces as the students caught up with their teachers and classmates to share their holiday experiences. A lot of quality time was spent with family and friends, travelling to places near and far and, importantly, enjoying the opportunity to rest and recharge after a busy first term in Grade One!

Despite only being back at school for a couple of days, the students have already been busy learning different concepts and skills.

In the literacy sessions, they have started to explore Fairy Tales. This week the classes are reading The Three Little Pigs and are learning to sequence the events from the story. They also had a lot of fun generating and discussing their ideas for what materials they would use to build their own wolf-proof houses!

In numeracy, the students are practising their Friends of Ten addition and subtraction facts, strengthening their understanding of the days, months and seasons of the year, and they have been playing a range of games to reinforce skills across different areas.

Throughout the Resilience Project lessons, students have participated in discussions and activities to explore and reflect on things they are grateful for. It was delightful to hear the different things the students are grateful for at school and in their lives outside of school.

This term Grade One children commence their History unit and discover the similarities and differences between their daily lives and those of their parents and grandparents when they were children.
