Reflections from our students
I’ve learned that permaculture is a type of farming where you work with the environment instead of against it. Permaculture is also the art of designing a beneficial relationship between plants, people and animals. Permaculture can be anywhere such as worm farms, fruit trees, bees, herb gardens, greenhouses, paths etc. I have really enjoyed recycling scraps and watering plants in our lessons. – Diya
I have enjoyed Horticulture so far. From planting many seeds and seeing them start to take root but also watching 'The Biggest Little' farm and writing our assignment on it really showed our class how this can affect the world, while helping create a sustainable way to farm/plant. I am excited for what we will be learning more about next. - Meg Kaiser
I am having fun in horticulture because we are learning about how photosynthesis is really cool and I am having fun in our lessons. – Rosie
In horticulture I have learned that you shouldn't wet the leaves on a plant when watering it because they can boil. I like taking the scraps for compost and the chickens. – Stella
In horticulture I have learnt about how to propagate and plant different plants, I have also learnt the meaning of permaculture and how plants and animals have a strong relationship. – Miranda
In horticulture, we are learning all about asexual and sexual propagation. Asexual propagation is where we get cuttings from an existing plant to make a new plant. Sexual propagation is where we get the seeds from a plant. – Eunice
I really enjoy seeing how our school is being environmentally friendly by recycling food scraps from the café. It’s really interesting seeing the community work to make Alice Springs a better place for plants. – Aoife
In horticulture, I really enjoyed doing the practical work like planting cuttings and germinating the seeds and also watering the plants in the herb garden every lesson. - Sarah
