Junior Soccer Report

Mazenod V Kalamunda Senior High School Game 2

The Junior Soccer Team played their second game of the Champion Schools Football Cup season hosting local rival Kalamunda SHS. The team were looking to continue their winning form following last week’s win against Lynwood SHS. In tough playing conditions, Mazenod dominated the game from start to finish. Our pressure and fantastic team passing cut through the Kalamunda defence creating plenty of goal-scoring opportunities.

Mazenod ran out well-deserved 8-1 winners. It was another strong performance and result for the team who sit top of the group with two games to play. The team would like to thank all the parents who came down to help and support them. Congratulations to Hamish P who scored a hat trick, Joshua W, Lucas R with 2 goals each and Lorys M who scored 1. The team's next game is against Australian Islamic College in Week 7 at Mazenod.

Intermediate Soccer Report

Mazenod V Australian Islamic College Game 1

The Intermediate Soccer Team played their first game of the Champion Schools Football Cup season playing away at Australian Islamic College. Both teams were looking to get their seasons off to a good start in the Regional Pennant Competition. The game was a tale of 2 halves with Mazenod dominating AIC in the first half thanks to precision passing and relentless pressure on the AIC defence, scoring 4 goals and taking a 4-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half the game was flipped, with AIC scoring a second goal off a Mazenod defensive mishap, giving them belief and shifting momentum in the game. AIC's continued pressure allowed them to capitalise on 2 more mistakes. The game finished with a 4-4 draw. It was a disappointing result for the team who were not able to finish the game off after a strong first-half performance.

Mazenod V Southern River College Game 2

The second game for the Intermediate Soccer Team was at Mazenod against Southern River College. After a tight tussle to start the game, Mazenod eventually took control of the match leading 4-2 with 10 minutes to go.

Southern River hit back, scoring 2 quick goals to make a tight final minute of the match, with Mazenod holding on for the win. It was a much improved performance against strong opposition. Many thanks to Mr Wani and Mr Mason for their assistance in coaching the team and to the parents who came and supported. The team's next game is another home match against Kelmscott SHS in Week 6.

Senior Soccer

Mazenod v Lesmurdie

The Senior boys got off to a winning start with a comprehensive 4-1 win against Lesmurdie SHS. It was a physical encounter, highlighted by four good goals from Marcus M (x2), Nicolas E and Zachary H. Well played gentlemen!

AFL Redimed Schoolboys Cup

Mazenod V Comet Bay College

On Wednesday, 1 May our 1st XVIII AFL team had their first fixture of the 2024 Division 1 AFL Redimed Schoolboys Cup. The team set off down the highway to Comet Bay College and was up against a strong outfit in tough conditions. Almost immediately after the bounce, rain set in and Mazenod were challenged after Comet Bay kicked the first 4 goals of the game.

Josh H and Jevan B were solid in defence, and despite the rain, James C made the football look dry, using the ball with class off half back. Skipper Sasha J and Luke B tackled hard whilst Alex P was strong up forward. A stronger second half kept Comet Bay goalless, however, the boys fell just short with the game finishing 4.10 – 3.3.

AFL Schoolboys Cup Jakovich Division

Mazenod 2nd XVIII  V Swan Christian College

The 2nd XVIII ventured down to Swan Christian College to play their first side and are to be congratulated for their outstanding effort. I pulled together a team at the last minute and they represented the College with pride and great sportsmanship Their pressure and tackling have sent the AFL's pressure gauge to its limit!

They supported each other around the ground and team manager Mr Mallon and I could not be prouder to be coaching them. It was fun, it was hard and it was disciplined.

Thank you to the Year 10's stepping up Tate, Cooper, Brock and Greg.

Year 12's Sam, Joshua L, Josh M, Jed T, Captain Clark,  Aiden Bull and Luke D showed character and leadership.

Year 11's punched above their weight and John W took on a hard task without hesitation. The Year 11 defence was supreme.

This competition is about the development of footy, character and collegiality.

Well done and thank you.

Mazenod 2nd XVIII  V La Salle

After reading the score please keep in mind we played their “FIRST 18” and for my team, it doesn’t come into the game. They still punch above their weight when it comes to matching pressure and tackles.

The Year 10s stepped up again and were not intimidated by the older, bigger opposition. Standouts, Mitch G, Finn T, Greg O (son of Old Boy Ian) and Jacob O (son of Old Boy of John 2003). Greg has played all season and has impressed in all facets of the game.

The backbone has been our Year 11 players. Thank you to all for your enthusiasm and commitment. Once again John W showed he is a serious contender for F and B of the team.

The three Year 12’s inspired the younger students! Examples: Joshua L having a couple of bounces out of the backline. Jed T showing that you can still hit hard in a contested situation without being yellow-carded and Josh M who has been sick all week got his father (Thank you Mr M) to grab his gear from home and still was in the top 5! Inspirational!

Thank you to Mr Chris Mason who makes the job that much easier.

Thank you to Mr Mallon for running/assisting coaching/ property managing and everything else when needed.

Thank you boys too. We loved it!

Mazenod 2.3 def by La alle 10.6

Just for the record, we finished 3rd for the season.
