Year 10 Commerce Market Day

Year 10 Commerce Market Day
As part of the Year 10 Commerce elective, students ran their own business stall on Monday 8 December 2025 for the topic of Running a Business.
In groups, students were given time in class to work with their teacher to develop, plan and organise their final products for market day to ensure business success. Students worked on how to advertise their products, how to best price their product, and the role of each team member in the business. The process of planning and running a business helped students to develop their communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Students sold a variety of food products on the day including:
- Lemonade and Choc-Dipped Strawberries
- Mystery lolly bags
- Mango Pana Cotta
- Coke floats
- Fruit cup and spider drinks
- Brownies
- Waffles and ice-cream
- Cheese cakes
- Cake pops
Profits made will be donated to their chosen charity: Cancer Council NSW. The goal was to donate $600.
Some student testimonials about their experience:
“I learnt how to cooperate as a team with handling the cheesecakes and our roles on market day. I also learnt how to work under pressure while dealing with difficult customers…The posters we made were effective as we got people to pre-order and people told us our posters looked amazing.” - C.H.
“I learnt that you must always triple check expenses to ensure the business doesn’t lose money or forget to buy the necessary items to support it. I also learnt that more signs should be posted about the business to spread awareness for those who haven’t heard what the business has said previously as well as providing clear instructions to customers like being in one line or where to actually stand to order the cheesecake.” - J.K.
“The thing I enjoyed was making the spider drink and talking to people. One challenge was my partner not being at school and having to do more of the work. We did end up making a profit, which I was not expecting. I feel like if I were going to do this again, I would try to be faster and to not buy too much soda.” - Y.S.
