I've made an exciting purchase for our music room!

These lovely drums have a much better sound than the buckets we have been using, and they were perfect for a lesson tying together timbre (tone colour) and rhythm. We discussed that a musician uses knowledge and physical ability, but the most important thing they need to use is their ears. Can we listen as we play to create the tone we want and like?

Everyone was able to produce a lovely bass note, and then we challenged ourselves to move between a tone and slap sound on the outer part of the skin. This took a little patience and I was pleased to observe the musical awareness of our children as they listened carefully to control the tone they were creating.

We also brushed up on our note names and practiced writing musical notation. Hopefully if we revise our learning enough before the summer break, most of it will stick??

Bingo is ALWAYS a winner!
