TEACHING AND LEARNING

Integrated

Our science unit has come to an end with some exciting projects. Students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning while applying their problem-solving skills. Our Year 1/2 students used their knowledge of buoyancy to design a boat that would float, and they had a great time testing their creations outside. Our Year 3/4 students applied their understanding of forces, including push and pull, to design and construct a catapult. Check out some of the amazing action photos!

Literacy

What an exciting year of Literacy learning we have had across the school! Our Foundation–Year 2 students have continued to thrive with the Sounds Write program, building strong phonics knowledge and growing confidence as readers and writers. It has been wonderful to see this success reflected in their daily learning and their enthusiasm for tackling new texts.

Across the school, students have engaged with a rich range of high-quality literature. These texts have encouraged deep thinking, lively discussion and opportunities to explore the author’s craft. From analysing characters and themes to noticing language choices and text structures, students have developed a deeper appreciation for how great writers communicate meaning.

In Writing, students have embraced a variety of genres throughout the year. They have crafted imaginative narratives, developed persuasive pieces, shared their knowledge through information reports and most recently followed and created procedures. Each genre has provided students with new ways to apply their skills, express their ideas and showcase their growing mastery of writing.

It has been a year filled with creativity, curiosity and achievement in Literacy. Well done to all students for their hard work and enthusiasm!

Numeracy

It has been a wonderful year of maths learning, with highlights including our first ever Maths Mania Day and our Open Night. This year, we worked closely with maths consultant Michael Minas to engage students in weekly problem-solving lessons that strengthened the connection between classroom numeracy and real-world applications. Thank you for supporting our mathematicians throughout the year. It has been amazing to see their growth and celebrate all they have achieved!

High abilities

A huge thank you to everyone who purchased a copy of the 2026 Yearbook. Our High Ability writers were excited to see the finished product when it arrived this week. Having a Yearbook which is written and designed by students is such an achievement for Lucas Primary School, not only capturing our memories of the year, but also giving our students an authentic reason to write.

The success of the 2025 Yearbook has ensured that next year, students will again be given the opportunity to produce their own 2026 version of Lucas Journeys!

Year 5/6 Garden Art Project

Our wonderful garden art project is nearly finished. Each piece is unique and highlights the creativity of our students. We are looking forward to installing these artworks in our garden as a lasting reminder of the time our Year 5/6 students have spent at LPS. A big thank you to Mrs Glanville for her organisation, dedication and passion in leading this project.
