Years 7 & 8 STEM Class

Over the last two terms, our talented Maths and Science students in Years 7 and 8 have been challenging their ideas and extending their knowledge in the area of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) with the following scenario- what do we need to consider if humankind was to set up a colony on the moon? Students have delved into needs such as water, food, oxygen and shelter, as well as transportation and gravity. They have even looked at moon landing conspiracy theories. Through research, discussion, collaboration and experimentation, students have gained a greater insight into the challenges posed by space travel and the problems that specialists in such places as NASA are trying to solve. Well done to all students involved - we hope we have sparked an interest in working on some of the current and future challenges that our world faces.
