Creative Arts

This term, our K–6 students have been inspired by the vibrant and expressive artwork of Australian artist Pete Cromer. Exploring his bold use of colour, lively brushstrokes, and playful portraits, students have had the opportunity to create their own colourful artworks that express their unique personalities and stories. Through experimenting with bright paints, shapes, and expressive techniques, children across all stages have enjoyed a creative and engaging learning experience in visual arts. We are excited to display their imaginative pieces at our assembly, celebrating their creativity and artistic growth.

Literacy

Over the past fortnight, our Koala class have been buzzing with creativity and curiosity as they explored the exciting world of inventions through the stories Imagineer and The World's Greatest Invention. They discovered how inventors use their imagination to dream up ideas that solve problems and make life better. We also learnt that sometimes the greatest of plans do not work, and that is ok.

Students loved creating their own inventions and practiced sharing their own inventive ideas by drawing, writing, and talking about their unique creations, building their confidence and communication skills.

Through these activities, we can beging to understand how stories and information texts work, while developing important skills in problem-solving and critical thinking. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they imagined, designed, and shared their very own inventions!

Maths

Exploring 3D objects in Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 is an engaging part of mathematics in the early years. Students manipulate, describe and sort three dimensional objects, building confidence as they use language to talk about their properties and how they can tell them apart.

They describe and compare volumes as they observe how much space these objects take up, encouraging curiosity about the practical use of 3D shapes in everyday life.

Activities like making, sketching models and nets of three-dimensional objects including prisms and pyramids allow students in Year 2 to connect hands-on experiences with mathematical reasoning. Students also estimate, measure and compare capacities (internal volumes), bringing real-world relevance to their mathematical discoveries.
