What Did You Do At School?

Prep
Our Prep students have made a wonderful start to the year, settling into everyday school routines and showing a growing level of independence. They are learning to play cooperatively with their friends, manage their lunchboxes, and carry their own bags with confidence. A recent highlight was meeting their Year 6 buddies, who are already proving to be caring and encouraging role models. Another special milestone was attending their first Chapel, where the students joyfully sang their hearts out together. It has been a delight to see their enthusiasm, courage, and willingness to try new things as they begin their school journey.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
Year 1
It is wonderful to see how quickly our Year 1 students are UFLI-ing into their new routines! We have been particularly busy during our Big Write sessions, where students are working hard to build their writing stamina and creativity. As we explore various texts, we are becoming "VCOP detectives," identifying Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers, and Punctuation both in the books that we read and within our own classroom environment. Help us identify these when we read to you at home!
In Science, we have officially launched our unit on the life cycle of plants. The students are becoming little botanists as they have planted their very own beans and are learning exactly what a plant needs to grow and thrive. We look forward to making daily observations and watching our beans sprout over the coming weeks.
Year 2
Gaga Ball! The day finally arrived when we were allowed to play Gaga Ball. It was so much fun to play as a Year 2 group. We have watched the older students for so long, and it is exciting to finally join in. If that wasn't exciting enough, we have also started our strings lessons. In the first lesson, we listened to the instruments and had a little turn. The teachers also measured us so our instruments would be just right. After waiting a week, we received our instruments. It was exciting to name our instruments and put a little keychain on each, so we'd know which was ours. We love spending time with Mrs Radford, Mrs Bills and Mrs Brown.
Year 3
We are off to an exciting start in Year 3, with students settling into the Upper Primary Building and adjusting to more independent routines! It is wonderful to see them exploring classrooms, making new friends, and embracing the joys of the upper grades.
This year, many students are joining the Cherub Choir for the first time, with rehearsals on Tuesday mornings. It is full of energy and excitement, and it is a special opportunity for students to try something new.
Year 3 is also diving into new adventures across a variety of subjects, exploring, learning, and growing together.
We are so proud of how well students have started the year and cannot wait to see all the amazing things they will accomplish.
Year 4
We’ve hit the ground running in Year 4 as we look ahead to an exciting and busy term. Our first camp at Mill Valley Ranch is just around the corner, and we’re already buzzing with anticipation for the adventures that await us. We’re looking forward to horse riding, archery, a night hike, the low ropes course, and, of course, plenty of delicious food. Camp will give us a wonderful opportunity to grow in independence and strengthen our friendships. We’re sure to return with plenty of stories to share!
Year 5
We have had a fantastic start to Year 5! In Mathematics we have been learning about factors, multiples, and prime numbers, with a particularly engaging investigation into prime numbers between 0 and 100.
In English, we have been learning to make meaningful connections between texts, personal experiences, and the world around us. We've been discovering that this makes our reading more personal and meaningful.
We have also been reading Mark's gospel and have been amazed at Jesus' power and kindness.
Year 6
Year 6 has started 2026 with a bang! As this is our last year of Junior School, we have stepped up to become the role models of the Junior School. We have started running chapels, met our little buddies, and taken part in the Sower Leadership Conference.
The Sower Leadership Conference took place on Monday 16 February, where 21 schools, and over 300 students, from all over Victoria gathered together at LMC. Incredible speakers took to the stage to bring encouragement and share inspiring stories, teaching us to lead according to our giftings.
Some of our key takeaways included: never give up, try new things, being a leader means having a servant heart, and trusting in Jesus, who is our ultimate leader. We cannot wait to put everything we have learned into practice as we head into this year!
